Anita Mae (Letts) Green


Anita Mae (Letts) Green was born April 22, 1925, in Oklahoma City to Frederick and Pauline (Western) Letts. She attended Oklahoma City public schools and upon graduation attended Oklahoma State University graduating in May, 1947. While in college she met the love of her life, Alfred Martin Green from Cordell, Oklahoma. After their graduations, they took teaching jobs in Dill City, Oklahoma. In 1949, they moved to Lawton, Oklahoma where Anita worked for the local VA office while Al taught Vocational Ag and was a FFA adviser. In 1954, Al’s new job with Superior Feed Mills moved them to Oklahoma City. With two small children, Anita took time off until 1961, when the family moved to Muskogee. Shortly thereafter she went to work for the Beckman Insurance Company, a job she held until her retirement. In addition to her full time job she was the treasurer for her church, Memorial Christian in addition to being a full time worry wart about her family. She had a beautiful soul.

Anita and Al celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this past August 2nd. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Fredericka Schmidt; and brother, Frederick. She is survived by her husband; brother, Leland Letts; daughters, Kathy Hewitt and Karee Steele, their husbands Perry Hewitt III and Jim Steele. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Perry Hewitt IV (wife Randi), Mike Hewitt, Chris Hewitt, Kristin Lindsay Parks, and Sarah Allison Steele. She leaves behind eight great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Leslie Hewitt, Jacob Lujan, Daniel Ryan Hewitt, Carson Montgomery Hewitt, Kathryn Wagner Hewitt, Jack Martin Hewitt, Abbie Elisabeth Scott and Bronx Leim Duren as well as a close fun group of cousins and a special nephew, Lynn Green.

The family suggests memorials be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2130 W. Okmulgee, Muskogee, OK 74401 or Eastar Hospital Auxiliary, 300 Rockefeller Drive, Muskogee, OK 74401.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Anita Green will be held 10:00 am, Friday, October 4, 2013 at St.Paul United Methodist Church with Reverend Mark Jardine officiating.
