Janice Ruth Schoonover

1933-2013

Janice Ruth Schoonover, age 80, of Muskogee passed away on Monday, Oct 7, 2013 surrounded by the love and comfort of her family and friends. Janice was born on Jan 2, 1933 in Hampton, VA. She graduated from Concord, Mass high school in 1950 and then studied art history at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY. She continued to enjoy painting throughout her life. Janice moved to Muskogee in 1956 where she met and married her husband of 49 years, Frank Schoonover.

Janice was an employee of Sears for 27 years until her retirement in 1994. She was an avid OU and OSU football and Thunder basketball fan and an expert at crossword puzzles. She exercised regularly at the gym until she was 78 years old. A longtime member of Grace Episcopal Church, Janice enjoyed her time volunteering for Servings of Grace and as a volunteer arranging flowers at Muskogee General Hospital. Above all else though, Janice loved her children, grandchildren and family.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Schoonover and her loving son, Russell Schoonover. She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Liz and Ken Muratet of Tulsa, her sister-in-law Sherry Schoonover of Muskogee, her grandchildren Ben Muratet and his wife, Jen Muratet, Anna Morakot and her husband Tony Morakot, Chris Schoonover, Brandalyn Schoonover, Haley Trotter and her husband Marvin Trotter, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to Clarehouse, 7617 South Mingo, Tulsa, OK 74133.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday October 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Grace Episcopal Church.
