John Joseph Hunter III

1970-2013

John Hunter, “Jocko”, passed away suddenly at his home on Mockingbird Lane. He was the beloved son of Esther and John Hunter, born in Tema, Ghana, West Africa on August 8, 1970. He lived his younger years in Ghana, Venezuela, Jamaica, and the United States. Jocko lived in Baton Rouge, LA where he graduated from Parkview Baptist High School. He graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a Marketing Degree and eventually worked in Florida, where he truly enjoyed the environment.  Jocko returned to Muskogee in 2012 to be with family and was currently employed in Tulsa.

He loved the sea and was an avid scuba diver, but mostly enjoyed activities with his two sons, John Joseph Hunter IV (JJ) of Orlando, Fl., and Tyler James Hunter of Maitland, FL. Jocko was a beach lover and enjoyed many sandy days with his boys. He also enjoyed family card and table games, especially Trivial Pursuit and reading Wilbur Smith novels.

Jocko is survived by his parents, Esther and John Hunter of Muskogee; his sons, JJ and Tyler; his sisters, Linda Lapeyrouse and husband, Paul of Baton Rouge, LA, Karen Fritchie-Cook and husband, Donald of Ft. Gibson, OK, Robin Nevitt and husband, Ronnie of Muskogee, OK; his nieces, Sarah Taylor and husband, Danny along with grand nephew, Chris, Rachel Fritchie, Christina Fritchie, Hannah Rhoades and husband, Joe, Raleigh Lapeyrouse; his nephews, Ray Reel, Cody Cook and wife, Mallory; and other family members and friends that were dear to him.

Jocko was dearly loved by all in the family and will be forever in our hearts.

Jocko’s family will receive friends and visitors from 5-7 p.m., Monday, July 1, 2013 at Cornerstone Funeral Home.

The family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association, 2227 E. Skelly Dr., Tulsa, OK, 74105; or at www.heart.org

Funeral services celebrating Jocko’s life will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ann Brizendine officiating.  He will be laid to rest at the Lutheran Cemetery in Trauger, PA. with his departed family members. Honorary pallbearers will be John Hunter IV, Tyler Hunter, Ray Reel, Kelly Hunter, David Hunter, and Chris Taylor.

Services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home and Crematory, 1830 North York Street, Muskogee, Oklahoma. Condolences may be made to the family at www.cornerstoneofmuskogee.com
