Jack Oliver Emerson, 80 year old Checotah native, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012 in Muskogee. Jack was born Thursday, January 28, 1932 in Checotah, Oklahoma to Wesley and Marie (Thomas) Emerson. He grew up in Checotah and graduated from Checotah High School as the Valedictorian of his class. Jack attended college in Missouri where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and worked as a civil engineer before retiring in 1994. On Friday, October 19, 1979 Jack married his best friend LaVeda Stretch in Paris, Texas. He was a master gardener and a very skilled woods craftsman who loved making grandfather clocks. Jack taught Sunday School at the First Free Will Baptist Church, Checotah and Mountain View Baptist Church, Muskogee. He was an avid bible reader having read it thoroughly 69 times. He is preceded in death by his parents and son Michael Stretch. Jack is lovingly survived by his wife LaVeda of the home; daughters Tina Emerson, Cynthia Emerson, Debbie Puckett all of Dallas, Texas and Susan Tounge and her husband Thomas of Burnside, Kentucky; sons Nick Emerson of Wizard Wells, Texas, Kenneth Stretch and his wife Linda of Okay, Oklahoma; Kathy Whitaker and her husband Cole of Durango, Colorado; grandchildren Jacob Emerson of Wizard Wells, Texas and Kenya Emerson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his brother Howard Emerson and his wife Mary Catherine of Ruston, Louisiana, numerous nieces and nephews, eleven step grandchildren, thirteen step great grandchildren, other extended family and a host of lifelong friends. Funeral services for Jack will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at First Free Will Baptist Church of Checotah with Reverend D. Van Washington of Trinity Baptist Church of Oktaha and Pastor Randall Rehberg of Mountain View Baptist Church of Muskogee officiating. Committal prayers and Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett. James Woods, Perry Crupper, Hershel Emberson, Brian Nutt, Bill Nutt and Larry Dan Leatherman will serve as Casket Bearers.
