Naomi L. Williams

1943 - 2012

— Naomi L. Williams was 69 years old at the time of her death on Friday, November 30, 2012. She was born April 13, 1943 in Onapa, OK and was the daughter of Ray and Orpha (Collins) Pemberton. She attended Cathy School during the first and second grades, Onapa School through her junior year, and graduated from Checotah High School.

Naomi was saved at an early age and was a member of Checotah First Baptist Church for many years. She spent many of those years working in youth ministry, serving those children that she loved so dearly. She also helped establish and the church library, encouraging others in her love of reading. Naomi was also a member of the Eastern Star, Checotah Chapter 25.

On May 24, 1963, she married Wayne T. Williams with whom she shared 49 wonderful years. They had one son, Bryan Wayne whom the cherished always.

She graduated from Northeastern State University in 1980. She enjoyed teaching, the first year at Henryetta and the rest at Hitchita (Midway) Schools. There she created many wonderful memories. Naomi retired from education in 2003.

Preceding Naomi in death were her son Bryan, her parents Ray and Orpha Pemberton, in-laws Ruth and H.E. (Bill) Williams, Sister Joyce Cannon and two nephews David and Joe Cannon.

Survivors include her husband Wayne of the home. Brothers Kenneth and wife Frances Pemberton and Donald and wife Sue Pemberton, brother-in-law Jim Cannon all of Checotah, special cousin John Millsap of McAlester, and numerous nieces and nephews along with many friends.

Services will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Checotah, with burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers are Mike Creekbaum, Bob James Randy Knight, Neal Emerson, Jay Emerson and Jim Barrett. Alternate pallbearers are C.R. Harris and Sam Spears.
