Robert A. “Bob” Haggard

1923 - 2013

— Robert A. “Bob” Haggard, 89, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  

The only child of Charles Haggard and Justine Newton Haggard, he was born September 28, 1923 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Bob grew up in the Cincinnati, Ohio area where he graduated high school. He was attending college in Colorado when he was drafted into the Army. Bob moved to Muskogee while in training at Camp Gruber. He served in WWII and was commissioned on the frontline as 2nd Lieutenant in Cirey France in February 1945 as well as being commissioned as 1st Lieutenant in the Korean War. Bob received an Honorable Discharge.

Bob began working at First National Bank in Muskogee as the Vice President of Marketing and Customer Service from which he retired after 47 years of service. He was very active in serving his community. Bob was a member of the Oklahoma Association for Blind Athletes, Treasurer and active member of the Rainbow 42nd Infantry Division, past President of Noon Optimist Club, past President of Rotary Club, Salvation Army volunteer, Chairman of Azalea Festival for many years and was honored to be the parade marshal three times, V.F.W., American Legion, member of the executive board of the Goodwill and Golden Rule, Sr. Bowling League still actively bowled every Monday and Thursday, an active member of First United Methodist Church and Friendship Class, and many other organizations in the community.

Bob and his wife, Barbara had a love for children. They taught the 3 &4 year-old Sunday school class for 16 years.

Bob loved his family, church, and community. His most valued time was that spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Justine Haggard; and his son, Michael T. Haggard.

Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home; his daughters, Robin Rosenberg and husband, Jack of Edmond, Shari Cottrell and husband, Steve of Fort Gibson; his grandchildren, Joshua Forrest and wife, Chelsie, McKinzey Cottrell, Ryan Cottrell, Shaun Cottrell, Lindsay Cottrell, Amy Haggard, Mindy Kincade and husband, Tom, Becky Dunlap and husband, Quinn, Michael David Haggard and wife, Mandy, Beau Haggard, Jenee’ Hensley and husband, Scott, Jeff Rosenberg and wife, Melissa, Abby Fleetwood and husband, Brad, Jared Rosenberg, Zach Tincher and wife, Summer; 25 great grandchildren; other family members and numerous friends.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Bob will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, 2013 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jack Kemper and Earnie Owen officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Judge Dunn, Ollie Briggs, Dennis James, Roy Entz, David Miller, and Hardy Clark serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the 42nd “Rainbow” Infantry Division.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to the 42nd Rainbow Division Scholarship Fund in memory of Robert Haggard, c/o Ben Pettus, 640 North East Lake Pointe, Lees Summit, MO., 64064 or First United Methodist Church Roofing Fund, 600 East Okmulgee, Muskogee, OK  74403.
