Floyd W. “Hoot” Huggins

1932 - 2014

Floyd W. “Hoot” Huggins was born September 13, 1932 in Wainwright, OK, the son of Harley and Lola (Stevens) Huggins and passed away on Friday, March 28, 2014, at his home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was 81.

Hoot was raised and went to school in Muskogee. He married the love of his life, Helen Edwards, on June 28, 1963 and they were blessed with 50 years and nine months together. Horses, rodeos, roping steers and calves, were all activities that Hoot loved. He was a past member of Living Legends, NOTRA, SPRA., NSPRA, IRA., past president of Oklahoma Team Ropers Association, and a life time member of USTRC. Prior to retirement, Hoot was Captain of the Muskogee Fire Department with 20 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Helen, of the home; son, Johnny Huggins and wife, Denice, of Oktaha; three daughters, Marsha Madewell, Mary Huggins, and Debbie Vandiver and husband, Danny, all of Muskogee; step-daughter, Sharlet Balcom of the home; brother, Jerry Huggins; two sisters, Lucille Smith and Addie Brown all of Muskogee; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jimmy Jack; daughter, Lawanta James; and three grandsons.

Services for Hoot will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Christian Chapel, where he was a member, with Brother Larry Miller officiating. Pallbearers will be Dustin Vandiver, Drew Vandiver, Steven Huggins, Johnny Huggins Jr., Jim Phipps, and Mike Knupp. Honorary pallbearers will be the Muskogee Fire Department. Burial will be in Middleton Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home of Muskogee.
