Madelene Francis Mason, longtime resident of the Hulbert and Fort Gibson area, passed away Monday, August 9, 2010 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Pryor OK, August 28, 1934, the daughter of George & Nora Velma (Crow) Pace.
She went to school in Pryor, and at that time, they had the Trade and Industrial Class which enabled her to work at Gables Store. She married Arvie Alvis Mason, May 15, 1952. Arvie was in the Navy, and this took them to San Diego, CA where their children, Arvie Alvis, Jr., Roger Dale, and Barbara were born. After the San Fernando, CA earthquake the Mason’s moved back home to OK. They have lived on the hill near Fort Gibson dam for many years. Madelene was very active in the Norwood Church, as food was her specialty, she became the cook for many church dinners. However, she is best known for her peanut brittle and that will be missed. Madelene loved to fish, mainly for crappie. Arvie & Madelene had a boat house at the club on Fort Gibson where they made so many great memories with family and many friends.
She is survived by her husband, Arvie of 58 years, son, Arvie, Jr. and daughter, Barbara, and three grandsons: Adam & his wife, Angela, Matthew, and Andrew & his wife, Tish; great grandchildren, Eric, Destinee, Ethan, and Brinley Faith; sisters, Lila Thompson & husband, Robert; Sue Chrisman & husband, William; Betsy McClendon & husband, Claude, and Martha Adams; brothers, Pat Jaggers & wife, Shirley, and Ivan Pace & wife, Linda; sisters-in-law, Billie Jean Pace and Juanita Pace, and many nieces, nephews and other loved ones.
Madelene was a very small person in stature, but oh, such a powerful strength and wisdom she was blessed with in handling any situation she was handed in life. She touched so many lives and it is our great loss and she will be missed greatly.
A celebration of Madelene’s life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Hulbert with Reverend Phil Pack officiating. She will be laid to rest in the I.O.O. F. Hulbert Cemetery with Austin Smythe, Adam Mason, Andrew Mason, Brian Thompson, Letch Chadwell and Mathew Mason serving as pallbearers.
