Martha Annette Perot Berkenbile

1921 – 2013

Martha Annette Perot Berkenbile went to be with the Lord on April 2, 2013, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

She was born in Dallas, Texas, November 16, 1921, to Remy and Aileen Marshall Perot.

Martha obtained her French degree from East Central State University in Ada, Oklahoma. Martha and her sister, Sara Jo, taught school in Weleetka, Oklahoma and then moved to Roy, New Mexico, where they taught language and music.

Martha met her husband, Glen Lee Berkenbile, in Oklahoma City while working at Citizens National Bank. They were married in 1945 and moved to Washington, D.C. while Glen was in the Army Medical Corp. Daughter, Carol Sue was born in Oklahoma City. They moved to Purcell where daughter, Sally Kay, was born. The family then moved to Dallas for Glen’s Surgical Residency Training. Daughter, Janis Lee was born at that time. In 1956, the family moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma where Martha became very involved with her family and volunteer activities including the Service League of Muskogee, the Bellmon Belles, Salvation Army, Girl Scouts and the Oklahoma Medical Auxiliary.  She was also active in the St. Paul’s Methodist Church were she was Mother of the Year 2 years in a row.

In 1979, Martha and Glen moved to Tulsa. Once in Tulsa she was very involved in PEO, French Club, Phi Mu and her church, Boston Avenue Methodist.  One of her favorite activities was teaching French during the Continuing Education sessions at Boston Avenue.

She has always been a very dedicated and loving mother, wife and grandmother.

Martha was preceded in death by her mother and father, sister, Sara Jo Wilson, Muskogee, and brother, Remy Perot of Norman.

Martha is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Glen Berkenbile, M. D., of Tulsa, three daughters, Suzi Fawthrop of Tulsa; Sally (William) Beckman of Edmond and Janis (David) Ferguson of Tulsa. She has seven grandchildren:  Bill (Suzanne) Beckman, Chicago, Illinois, Annette Barcum, Edmond, Lee Beckman (Desiree), New York City, Ladd Fritz, New York City, Marjorie Guy (Zachary), New York City, Martha Fritz and Christy Ferguson, Tulsa and Christopher Fawthrop; four great-grandchildren, William and Evie Beckman and Aiden and Addison Barcum.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made in Martha’s memory to Clarehouse or St Francis Hospice Services.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday April 5, 2013 at Boston Ave. United Methodist Church, Tulsa. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Moore’s Rosewood Chapel, 918-744-1202.
