Julie Ann Bennett Swearengin

1947 - 2012

— Julie Ann Bennett Swearengin was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 23, 2012. She passed away at Broadway Manor Nursing Home with her loved ones and friends from Hometown Hospice at her side.

Julie was born April 5, 1947 in Vian, Oklahoma where she was raised. She graduated from Vian High School with the class of 1967. After graduation, Julie attended Virgil’s Beauty College where graduated in 1972.

In 1973, on Thanksgiving Day, Julie met the love of her life, Carl Swearingen. The couple married on May 25, 1974 making their home in Muskogee until 1975 when they relocated to Bismark, Arkansas. Julie became a substitute teacher for special education students in the Arkadelphia, Arkansas school system. On January 12, 1980, the couple relocated back to Muskogee where Julie became a dedicated housewife. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, and caring for her beloved dogs, Gizzmo, Ponchavilla, Baby Grant, and Maxie B. Julie was a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church in Muskogee. As a child, she attended Vian Baptist Church. Julie served the Lord her whole life and enjoyed singing in the choir.

Julie was preceded in death, at the time of her birth, by her mother, Wanda “Pawnee” Wooten-Bennett; and later, by her father, “Doc” Ray Bennett; her paternal grandparents, James Taylor and Edna Alice Bennett, who raised her and her twin sister; and her maternal grandparents, Junis and Effie Wooten.

Left to mourn her passing, her husband, Carl Swearengin of Muskogee; her identical twin sister, Judy Ann Bennett Cacy and husband Art of Tulsa; her niece, Cheryl Williams and husband Sonny of Tulsa; her two great nephews, Taylor and Tyler Williams, both of Tulsa; her mother-in-law, Ella “Josie” Swearengin of Gore; her sister-in-law, Jota Lee “Jodie” Spears; her brother-in-laws, Jimmy “Leon” Patrick and Bill Swearengin; and her very best friends, Gail Seviers and Teresa Fairchild, both who loved and cherished Julie; and her cousins that she was close to and grew up with, Martha Slape, Paula Page, Gail Warner, Joe Bennett, David Bennett, James Bennett, Mary Edna Sumpter, and Coleen Cox; also her uncles, Carroll Wooten and Raymond Moss, whom Julie adored!

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Church of Latter Day Saints in Muskogee with Bishop Guy Grooms and Pastor Rick Hanes officiating. Interment will follow at Stevenson Cemetery in Gore, Oklahoma with Gary Crafton, Marshall Swearengin, Tony Swearengin, Ray Tschetter , Jacob Deckard, and Isaac Slape serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Teresa Fairchild, Chris White, Randy Fairchild, and Thomas Spears.

Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home and Crematory, 1830 North York Street, Muskogee, Oklahoma. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.cornerstoneofmuskogee.com
