May Allene (Wallace) Long

1919 - 2012

— May Allene (Wallace) Long, our sweet loving Mother, heartbeat of our family, passed on to her heavenly home on December 29, 2012 at the age of 93. She will forever be remembered for her compassionate spirit, the love of family, and her sense of humor.

She was born October 14, 1919 in Oktaka, Oklahoma to Robert N. and May (Talbutt) Wallace. She was educated in Oktaha and graduated in 1937 as salutatorian. She graduated from Connors State College in 1939. While there, she met the love of her life Roscoe M. Long. They married in 1939 and moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas where Roscoe attended University of Arkansas on a track scholarship. During World War II they lived in San Diego while Roscoe served in the U. S. Navy. After the war they moved with their two daughters, Sue and Linda to Wetumka, Oklahoma where he worked for the Soil Conservation Service. While in Wetumka, May was an active member of the community. She was involved in PTA, Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, Mother Advisor of Rainbow Girls, co-founder of The Woman’s Auxiliary of the New Wetumka Hospital.

Most of the time she was either taking a car full of kids to and from various activities or entertaining them at home. If the church doors were open at the First Methodist Church in Wetumka she was there—teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was president of the WSCS (now United Methodist Women) and she could always be found in the church kitchen on Wednesday night pot-luck dinner.

She was an amazing seamstress who loved making clothes for her girls and a wonderful cook who loved having family and friends over for dinner.

However, her greatest joy in life was her family—not only her husband Roscoe and their girls, but her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. All the kids looked forward to going to G.G.’s (or Aunt May’s). She always had something fun for them to do. She also loved to rock babies. She personified “unconditional love.”

In 1963 they moved to Muskogee. They were active members of First United Methodist Church and their Sunday School class. May worked at the board of Education and Sadler Jr. High Library. She was active in Chapter B of PEO, Shakespeare Club and Daughters of the American Revolution.

After Roscoe’s death in 1982, she became a tour guide for Travel Tours in Wagoner and traveled all over Canada and the U.S. She also took many trips and cruises to Europe with family and friends. She joined St. Paul United Methodist Church and attended the Wedding Ring Sunday School class and United Methodist Women.

She is predeceased by her parents, her husband Roscoe, her infant son, her brothers Robert M. Wallace and Jim Wallace.

She is survived by her daughter Sue Boosa and her husband David of Kennedale TX, her daughter Linda Roberts and her husband Carlile of Muskogee, OK, her sister Mary Schnake of Tulsa OK, her sister-in-law, Shirley Wallace of Muskogee, OK, grandchildren Greg Boosa and wife Patricia of Denton TX, Christie Jenkins and her husband Billy of Arlington TX, Eric Boosa of Alvin TX, Jeff Roberts and his wife Kendall of Muskogee, OK, Julie Roberts of Muskogee OK, grandchildren Preston, Courtney and Tara Jenkins (Arlington TX), Ashley and Charles Boosa (Denton TX), great grandchildren Ethan, Piper, Hudson, Julian and Chloe Roberts (Muskogee, OK) and great great granddaughter Alexa Onerado (Arlington TX). She is also survived by her nieces Vicki Wolfe (Longview TX), Sandi Woolverton (Tulsa OK), Debbie Brawley (Oklahoma City OK), nephews Brian, Mike and Pat Schnake (Tulsa OK), Jim Wallace (Muskogee OK), Bob and John Wallace (Tulsa OK) and special friend Margaret Ford. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Magnolia Gardens for their loving care.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the Rowsey Chapel of Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Muskogee. Family requests memorials to be donated to Saint Paul United Methodist Church, 2130 W. Okmulgee, Muskogee, OK 74401 and Kid’s Space, 400 Court St., Muskogee, OK 74401.
