Don Allen

1940 - 2013

— Don Allen, 72 year old Council Hill resident, passed away Monday, February 4, 2013 in Muskogee. 

He was born Sunday, June 16, 1940 to Cola Dodge and Docia (McCoy) Allen in Council Hill, Oklahoma. Don grew up in Council Hill, moved to Florida, finally settling in California where he graduated from Anaheim High School in 1958. After graduating from High School, he entered the Army joining the 82nd Airborne Division. Don met, fell in love and later married Doreen Ann Kleve on Saturday, December 2, 1961 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He delivered water softeners and later began working for Chromalloy where he traveled globally putting in water treatment plants. He later opened Allen Manufacturing, a machine welding shop and retired in 1980 at the age of 40. Don moved back to Council Hill where he bought his grandfather’s farm and just enjoyed farming for the next twenty years. He was a lighthearted man who enjoyed drinking with friends and playing bass guitar. Don owned and operated two businesses, raced motorcycles, was a member of the fast draw gun club and was a member Elm Grove Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Doreen Ann Kleve Allen and brother Ralph Allen. Don is lovingly survived by his daughters Susanne Rice of Muskogee and Kathryn Wilson and her husband Joe of Muskogee; grandchildren Stormie Rice and his wife Alisha of Muskogee, Julie Ann Cannon of Laurel, Maryland, and Joe Cannon Jr. of Checotah. He is also survived by his sister Joyce Stump and husband Lowell of Flagstaff, Arizona and his brother David Allen and wife Pauline of California, numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family members and a host of friends.

Viewing for Don will be 9 AM – 8 PM Thursday, February 7, 2013 with his family greeting friends from 5 PM – 7 PM at Garrett Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1 PM on Friday, February 8, 2013 at Garrett Family Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend David Bright, officiating. Military Honors provided by the United States Army Honor Guard and Interment will follow at 10 AM on Monday, February 11, 2013 in Ft. Gibson National Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett.  Stormie Rice and Jay Cannon will serve as Honorary Casket Bearers.
