Juanita Mae Cook

1916 – 2013

— Juanita Mae Cook, age 96, of Muskogee, OK, ascended to Heaven, Sunday, February 17, 2013, at Muskogee Regional Medical Center. Complications arose after she fell at home fracturing her hip.

She was born, May 3, 1916 in Boynton, OK, to John and Myrtle (Crenshaw) Crowder.  The family lived in several oil towns while she was still very young.  But finally settled in Muskogee as their home town, where she attended Edison Elementary School.

She was married to Bud Fugate from 1933 to 1947 and to Bill Cook from 1949 to 1964.

She helped her husband in their business, Cook Cement Contracting, for many years and she was employed at Love Bottling Co. for 13 years.

In her younger days she loved dancing, swimming, car races and going to the cabin on the lake. She was a great cook and seamstress.  In her later years she ran around with her partner in fun, her best friend and aunt, Aunt Tooter.  She crocheted countless afghans and baby blankets, made over 100 quilts that she gave away to family and friends.  She helped raise her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to watch Animal Planet, football, golf and NASCAR.  She was always there for an encouraging word, a shoulder to cry on and words of wisdom.  She was a Christian and member of Muskogee Christian Church.

She is survived by four daughters, Shirley Crupper and Perry, Louise Hughes and J.R., Bonnie Cook and Gary and Faye Guinn and Darrell; one son, James Fugate and son-in-law, George Mills; nine grandchildren, Eddie Hopkins and Shelly, Danny Hughes and Christian, Tammy Sweeney and Tim, Troy Mills and Diane, Ricky Mills and Kristi, Lynn Brackeen and Steve, Jay Fugate and Rachael, Dana Stephens and Scott and Rodney Guinn and granddaughter-in-law, Barbara Hughes.  Other survivors are nineteen great grandchildren, Dustin Hopkins and Amy, Lyndzi Bales and Tim, Kelli Cavin and Dan, Jennifer Hughes, Heather Knox and Bink, Coltyn Hughes, Amanda, Brianna and Christopher Ward, Phillip Mills, Angela and Carmen Mills, Justin Mills, Amy Brackeen, Mariah Fugate, Garrick Guinn and Allie, Alaina Moore and Dakota, Jillian Guinn and Summer Guinn; ten great great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter due in May, 2013;  one sister-in-law, Margie Crowder and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lucy and Jesse; three brothers; Iner, Cecil and Walter Crowder; daughter, Myrtle Ann Mills; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Kizzia Fugate; sons-in-law, Bobby Hughes, Sr. and Garry Guinn; grandsons, Bobby Hughes, Jr., Mark Hughes, Randy Mills and Johnny Scott Mills and great grandson, Aaron Fugate.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Fosters’ Ivory Chapel with Reverend D. Van Washington and Reverend Larry Pouncil officiating.  Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Garrick Guinn, Dakota Ballard, Andrew Farmer, Tommy Wyatt, B.J. Greenwood and Robert McDonald, Jr.

Funeral service arrangements are under the direction of Foster-Petering Funeral Home.
