Ralph Mason Walker

1921 - 2013

— Ralph Mason Walker, age 92, of Conway, AR went to his Heavenly home on July 20, 2013. He was the son of the late Arthur Walker and Cora Glass Walker, born September 11, 1921.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Davis Walker of 44 years. Also preceding him in death are his sister, Mae Walker Cunningham, and her husband, Charlie Cunningham, and their daughter, Alma Jean Ellis. Brothers-in-law, Jack Davis, Leon Davis, Audean Davis and Frank Davis, and sisters-in-law, Alta Davis, Wiladean Davis and Polly Davis, all of Westville, OK.

He is survived by his daughter, Kyla Gayle Walker Garrett, son-in-law, Lance Garrett, grandsons, Thomas and Levi Garrett, all of Conway, AR, sisters-in-law, Betty Davis and Deannie Davis of Westville, OK, brothers-in-law, DV Davis and Donald Prater, sisters-in-law, Geneva Davis Prater and Barbara Davis all of Pierce, OK and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was a World II Veteran who served with the 90th Division, Third Army under General Patton. He served in the ETO and entered Normandy France on Utah Beach on D-day + 4. He was drafted in November 1942, returned home in December 1945. He was in 5 of the 6 Campaigns in the War with Germany. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Medal from the Normandy France Government and Expert Rifle Marksman.

A graduate of Greenfield High School, Greenfield, OK, he was very active in the FFA. He loved to work with good livestock. After returning home after the war, he entered college at Connors State College near Warner, OK. He dropped out after one year and taught VATP at Greenfield, OK for 11 years. He entered Oklahoma A&M now Oklahoma State in 1950 and graduated in May, 1952. He was hired as Swine Herdsman for Oklahoma State Jan 1, 1952. He was head of the Animal Science Dept. for 8 years and then resigned and took a job as Livestock Coordinator at the Oklahoma State Prison. After 9 years there, he resigned and surrendered his life to full time work for the Lord.

He entered Bible Baptist College at Springfield, MO on Jan 1, 1970 and Graduated in May, 1972. He returned to his home church at Temple Baptist Church in Muskogee, OK as Associated Pastor and Principal of Temple Baptist Christian Academy and was there for 12 years. Upon retirement, he returned to his farm at Checotah, OK to care for his ill wife who passed this life in February 1994. He sold his farm in 1994 and moved to Arkansas to live with his daughter and son-in-law near Houston, AR. Later they moved to Conway, AR.

Ralph’s family will greet friends 5-7 pm on Monday, July 22, 2013 at Garrett Family Funeral Home of Checotah. Services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Eufaula, OK at 1:00 on Tuesday, July 23, 2003. Interment will follow at Pierce Cemetery, with Keith Davis, Mitch Davis, Ken Prater, Ben Rosser, Bruce Cunningham serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Buddy Glass, Bill Miner, DV Davis and Donald Prater. He was a charter and life member of Paul Henry Carr VFW Post at Checotah, OK.
