Katherine Virginia Peterson


— On March 11, 2013, Katherine Virginia Peterson reached for God’s hand and went home. She was 91. Katherine was born January 22, 1922, in Gage, Oklahoma, to Delbert and Melissa (Goff) Simpson. She was the 4th of 5 children.

After graduation from Gage High School, she spent World War II living in Wichita, Kansas and working as a precision driller for Beechcraft. On July 31, 1946, she married Vernon Leroy Peterson in Woodward, Oklahoma.

Katherine worked outside the home until the children started arriving. She took great pride in raising her family and did her best to take care of everyone. She also loved her Lord and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at Keyes First Baptist Church, Emanuel Baptist Church in Enid, and Hulbert First Baptist Church. She and Vernon faithfully attended Eastern Heights Baptist Church in Muskogee until health issues intervened. She never forgot her Lord and Savior and faithfully served Him.

Katherine was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Vernon Leroy; her parents; and her siblings, Jasper, Henry, Delbert, Jr. and Mary. She is survived by children Reverend Vern and Paula Peterson, Denton, NC, Gary and Peggy Peterson, Muskogee, OK, Sheryl and Ray Hardcastle, Eufaula, OK; grandchildren, Derek and Beth Peterson, Denton, NC, Chuck and Michele Peterson, Stafford, VA, Jason Peterson, and Amanda Peterson, Abilene, TX; great grandchildren, Grace and Gabriel Peterson, Denton, NC; sisters-in-law Agnes Roedell, Mooreland, OK, Maudie Matthews, Enid, OK and Ethel Barnes, McKinney, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Katherine Peterson will be held Friday, March 15, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at Bradley Belltower Chapel with Reverend Vern Peterson officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Gibson National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Gideon International, PO Box 204, Muskogee, OK 74402.
