John Benton Sturgeon

1948-2013

John Benton Sturgeon, 65, of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, November 7, 2013 at his home.  He was born May 5, 1948 in Blacksburg, Virginia to Curtis Sturgeon and Catherine Brennan Sturgeon.  John grew up in West Virginia where he attended school.  He moved to Muskogee and attended Bacone College.  John loved being outdoors and hunting.  He worked as a Park Ranger for 11 years at Greenleaf State Park.  

John was a loving and caring husband, father, and brother.  He loved his girls.  

John will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Catherine Russell Sturgeon; his wife, Pam Sturgeon; and his niece, Kelly Lindsay.

John is survived by his daughter, Tally (Bear) Dodge and friend, Erik Saenz; granddaughters, Marissa Dodge and Tess Dodge; ex-wife, friend, and caretaker, Mary Cavner; sister, Lynn Shirley and husband, David of Purcell, OK; nephews, Chad Lindsay and wife, Kim of Norman, OK; David Russell and wife, Janna of Nixa, MO, Tony Russell and wife, Sarah, Craig Russell and wife, Shannon, all of Springfield, MO; numerous other nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

Visitation for John will be 1pm-5pm both Saturday, November 9, 2013 and Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Cornerstone Funeral Home.

The family is not planning any services at this time.

Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.cornerstoneofmuskogee.com.
