Gracie Mae Logan

1935 – 2014


— On February 22, 1935, George and Gracie Thomas Colbert were blessed with a precious baby girl who was the youngest of ten children. She was named Gracie Mae.

Gracie grew up in the New Hope Community of Oktaha, OK, where she accepted Christ and united with the New Hope Baptist Church. She received her formal education from New Hope Grade School. She attended and graduated from Manual Training High School, Muskogee, OK. In 1951 she married the love of her life, Hollis Logan, Jr. and to this union nine children were born. This union continued for sixty-two years until the passing of her Hollis on October 12, 2013.

Gracie was employed with Swift Poultry and Coburn Optical for many years. Upon their closing she retired, at which time she enjoyed gardening, fishing, shopping, spending time with her children. She served her church faithfully, serving in many areas such as, pastors aide, financial secretary, mission treasurer, kitchen committee and treasurer of the New Hope Community Fund. She was also a member of Oklahoma Federation of Colored Women’s Club and Gardenia Art of Checotah, OK.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, two sisters, one daughter, Theodora and her beloved husband, Hollis Logan, Jr. Those Gracie leaves to cherish her memory are her children, Etta (Deforest) Lagrone, Oktaha, OK, Edwin Logan, Detroit, MI, Kenneth Logan, Tulsa, OK, Hollis (Shabon) Logan, III, Morris, OK, Gary (Sandra) Logan, Oktaha, OK, Deborah (Raymond) Dan, Checotah OK, Michael (Pamela) Logan, Warner, OK and Steven (Paula) Logan, Bristow, OK, three special nieces, she helped raise, Queen Colbert, Oklahoma City, OK, Jeanie (Marvin)Craig and Glorietta Colbert, both of Muskogee, OK, one sister, Rhoda Spigner. Brothers-in-law, Franklin (Juliet) Logan and Theodore (Clarice) Logan. Sister-in-law, Ollie (Ellis) Lawrence, nineteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who dearly loved her.

The homegoing service for Gracie will be held Saturday, February 22, 2014, 11:00 A.M. at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Logan, as host pastor. Rev. Milton Colbert, Pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church, Wichita, KS will officiate. She will be laid to rest in New Hope Community Cemetery. Visitation hours will be today from 1:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.

Services are under the direction of Ragsdale Funeral Center.
