Betty Tabb Murray, 91, of Muskogee, passed away Friday, July 26, 2013 at Broadway Manor Health Care Center.
Betty was born December 19, 1921 in Little Rock, AR, the daughter of John and Bess (Morrison) Hurst. She was a graduate of Little Rock Central High School, Little Rock Junior College and the University of Arkansas where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and Kappa Delta Phi, honorary Educational Fraternity.
Betty Tabb and Joseph Murray were married August 20, 1943 in Little Rock. During Joseph’s service years she was a substitute teacher in elementary schools in Little Rock and in Long Beach, California. The couple returned to Muskogee in December of 1945. Mr. Murray was employed at Muskogee Iron Works until his retirement. Betty was a homemaker. She took part in five High Fever Follies productions as a dancer. Her hobby was making picture albums of her many travels and a continuous family album.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, past president of the Women’s Association and a Bible Study leader for twenty-five years.
Joseph Murray preceded her in death in 1990. Betty is survived by a son, John of Henderson, NV; a daughter, Nancy Murray of Country Estates in Warner; granddaughter, Holly Harris and husband Stephen of St. Charles, MO and two great-grandchildren, Tristan and Noel Harris.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 1, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church in Muskogee with Rev. Ann Brizendine and Rev. Sam Dunn officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
