— Lewis Lowell “Doug” Williams, 96 year old Checotah resident, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. 

Doug was born Friday, February 9, 1917 to Arthur and Rosetta Clark Williams in Checotah, Oklahoma.  He was raised in Checotah, attended Onapa Schools and graduated from Onapa High School in 1936 being one of two in his graduating class. After graduation, he moved to California for a short six months before returning to Checotah.  On Saturday, August 28, 1937 Doug married the love of his life and his only other classmate, Dorothy Cannon, who never hesitated to inform everyone she was the Valedictorian.  Doug was a farmer raising chickens and cows all his life.  His work and his family were his greatest pleasures and was known as a great storyteller. Doug loved to read great western (outlaw) novels and to travel on bus trips.  He attended Onapa Baptist and First Baptist Church of Checotah and was saved more than twenty years ago. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.  Doug is lovingly survived by his wife Dorothy of the home; his children Jerry N. Williams and his wife Sue of Checotah, Barbara McAlester of Norman, Linda L Goodsell and her husband Rusty of Tulsa, Sharon K Rollin and her husband Rick of Midwest City; grandchildren Jodi Kirby and her husband Michael, Janet Stockton and her husband Jason, Mike Williams and his wife Mardi, Judy Lesniewski and her husband Curtis, Mark McAlester and his wife Rhonda, Shannon Goodsell and his wife Melissa, Sean Goodsell and his wife Lindsay, Shana Goodsell and Greg Jones, Karen Blanton and her husband Tim, Jeff Bledsoe, and Kimberly Schaefer and her husband Alan. He is also survived by nineteen great grandchildren, numerous other extended family members and a community full of lifelong friends. Funeral services for Doug will be held at 10 AM on Friday, April 5, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Checotah with Reverend Steve Dennis officiating. Committal prayers and Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett.  Alan Schaefer, Tim Blanton, Jeff Bledsoe, Mark McAlester, Sean Goodsell and Mike Williams will serve as Casket Bearers.
