Dicky Monte Cook


Dicky Cook passed this life at the age of 88, on Saturday, August 24, 2013 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  He was born to William E. Cook and Nellie Pooley (Cook) on August 10, 1925 in Atlantic, Iowa.  Dicky joined the Navy in March 1943 and was medically discharged in August 1944. He went to work for the Department of Defense from June 1945 to December 30, 1977.  Dicky retired in 1977 as Captain of the fire department at MCAS in Yuma, AZ.  He enjoyed hobbies such as fishing, hunting, pool and poker tournaments. He was a life time member in the DAV in Yuma, AZ, the VFW in Buena Vista, CO, and the Elks Club in Palmdale, CA..  Dicky moved to Oklahoma in 2007 and he finally was fortunate to be able to take his dream vacation, traveling to Alaska and throughout the Northern Territories.

Dicky was preceded in death by his parents, William and Nellie Cook.  His first wife Consuela (Connie) Cook. Two sisters, Dorothy Page and Cecile Sappenfield and one brother, Bayfield Clayton Cook.

He is survived by his wife Linda Lu Cook of Porum, Oklahoma. One sister-in-law, Lois Smith of Porum Oklahoma. Two sons, Walter Cook and wife Priscilla of Sunrise Arizona and Patrick Cook of Washington State.  One daughter, Barbara Smith and husband Dennis of San Diego, California. Two step-sons, Teddy Grant and wife Belinda of Ashtabula, Ohio and Gary Grant of Yuma, Arizona.  Two step- daughters, Cindy Karlovich and husband Rob of Yuma, Arizona and Joann Robertson and her husband Joe of Gillette, Wyoming.  Sixteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and a host of friends .

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 6, 2013 at the Ft. Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson. Service and arrangements are under the direction of Shipman’s Muskogee Cremation & Funeral Service
