Dale M. Curtis

1926-2013

Dale M. Curtis, 87 year old Checotah resident, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 in Muskogee. She was born on Thursday, February 25, 1926 to Arthur and Gerotha (Hensley) McCutchen in Newton County, AR. Dale grew up in Arkansas and graduated from Mt. Judea High School in 1944. She taught school in Arkansas, met and married her best friend and love of her life, J. R. Curtis on Tuesday, September 12, 1944 in Cave Creek, AR. They moved to California in 1951 where she became a homemaker and later moved back to Checotah where she began working for Wal-Mart in 1985 for 15 years. Dale loved painting, arts and crafts, teaching Sunday school and vacation Bible School. She especially loved to cook Sunday supper every Sunday and was famous for her fried apple pies and broccoli cornbread. Dale was a member of the Church of Christ and was baptized in the early 1930s. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, J.R. on Tuesday, July 17, 1984; two brothers, Jack and Raymond McCutchen; her son, Larry Curtis in October 1960; and a granddaughter, Tammy Coleman on Wednesday, June 24, 1992. Dale is lovingly survived by her sons, Ron Curtis and his wife Betty, Danny Curtis and his wife Diana, her daughter Ellen Coleman and her husband Glen, all of Checotah. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rodney Curtis and his wife Gari of Mustang; Brian Curtis and his wife Lori of Eufaula; Larry Curtis of Broken Arrow; Michael Curtis of Checotah; Jeff Coleman and his wife Stacy of Checotah; Stephanie Lawson and her husband Travis of Tulsa; and Sami Curtis of Fayetteville Arkansas; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and a lifetime of friends.

Funeral services for Dale will be held at the Checotah Church of Christ on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 1 PM with Mr. Everett Dunn officiating. Committal prayers and Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett. Johnny Buckmaster, Roy Matthews, Jack Pugh, Andy Blizzard, Buddy Forbes and Tim Frame will serve as Casket Bearers. Vic Emerson, Donald Dowdy, George Wilson, Skeet Frame, and Kelton Buck will serve as Honorary Casket Bearers.
