Ray Edward Williams

1923 – 2013

Ray Edward “Eddie” Williams, 89, of Claremore, Oklahoma, formerly of Muskogee, died Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Claremore Veterans Center. He was born on December 2, 1923 in Walls, Oklahoma to Walter and Eunice (Morrison) Williams. Eddie grew up and attended schools in the Walls and Red Oak area. He entered the U.S. Army AirCorps, trained as a radio technician and served in the European Theater during World War II. He was honorably discharged from the service in October, 1945. November 27, 1945, Eddie and Fonzell Daniels married in Hartford, Arkansas. They moved to Kinta, Oklahoma, where he had the town’s first Radio Shop. In May, 1947 Eddie moved his family to Muskogee, where he went to school and learned Underwood Typewriter repair. In March, 1964, he opened AAA Typewriter and Office Equipment in Muskogee. Eddie and Fonzell operated the business together until 1977 when they closed it due to health reasons.

Semi-retired, Eddie later worked for the V A Hospital repairing medical equipment and for Bob Leatherman as an office equipment repairman.

Eddie became a Christian in 1964. He and Fonzell attended and were members of many Baptist churches which included: Shiloh, Meadowbrook, Calvary, Southeast and Keefeton Trinity. He was a teacher, served as a deacon and educational director at many of the churches.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Eunice Williams; sister, Ruby Dunlap; brother, Lonnie Williams and sister, Mary Williams. He is survived by his wife of almost 68 years, Fonzell Williams of the home; daughter, Loreta Ann Perry of Claremore; grandson, Greg Perry and his wife Denise of Claremore; granddaughter, Jean Ann Ahrens of Fayetteville, NC; great-grandchildren, Malia Ahrens, Jarod Ahrens, Zach Perry and Nic Perry; sister, Ellie Gallagher of Muskogee, OK; brother, Bob Williams of Texarkana, TX; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
