John Kenneth Buchanan

1968-2013


— On January 30, 1950, a baby boy was born on Inman Street to the parents of Jesse & Cora Buchanan. He was the fourth child of this union and was named John Kenneth Buchanan.

He attended Manual Training High School and played football.  After graduating in 1968, he married his high school sweetheart, Naomi Cummings in 1970 and to this union, four children were born. He worked at Don Desmond Oldsmobile until he was hired at OG&E in 1974 as a mechanic and continued to work there until he retired in 2002. During the 27 years with OG&E he developed a passion for cooking. He entered the Muskogee Chili Cook-off for several years, representing OG&E. Also during his time with OG&E, he required the name of “Black Daddy” and everything thing he owned was labeled Black Daddy.

He is preceded in death by his father, mother, two brothers, grandparents, granddaughter Tie’shea Buchanan, grandson Andrew Lewis, and two nephews.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Naomi Buchanan, four sons, Donnell, John , Joseph of Muskogee, one nephew as a son, Tyreece Buchanan (Shalana)of Tulsa, one daughter Roshea Buchanan, four brothers, Joseph Buchanan , Oakland, California, Dwayne (Ruby), Glenn (Joyce), & James (Wanda) all of Muskogee, five sisters, Geraldine Walker (Eddie), Edna Lowe (Gerald), Sharon, Charlotte, and Josephine of Muskogee, seven sister-in-laws; Brenda Buchanan, Patricia Coleman, Norvella Thompson, Elizabeth Ballard, Madercia Lee, Nirako Cummings, Johnetta (Ira), one brother-in-law, Luther Cummings (Bernice). He played a big role in raising his grandchildren, nieces, & nephews. Grandchildren; Jonel, Erick, Jerick, Jordan, DeJon, Ty Lynn, Cody, Blake, LaTara, Chasady, Anasia, Tia, Kaia, Danielle. Great granddaughters, Cheyenne & Elayla. Two nieces & nephews he help raised, Shonteel Cummings, Imesia Thompson, Erick Cummings & Chris Cummings. Special aunt, Maxine Kane, who was a second mother to him, a special uncle, Eddie Hardridge, a host of other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The Celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Boulevard Christian Church. Apostle Lathon Archie, Pastor of Faith Deliverance Christian Center, will Preside.

Burial will follow in Booker T. Washington Cemetery in Muskogee.
