Ted Roosevelt Newell Jr.

1935 -2012

— Ted R. Newell, Jr. 77, longtime Wainwright, Oklahoma resident departed this world on Thursday, October 11, 2012 surrounded by his loved ones. Ted was born September 28, 1935, in Wainwright to Ted R. Newell, Sr. and Neva C. (Actkinson) Newell.

Ted grew up in Wainwright and was educated there, graduating with the class of 1953. Soon after high school, Ted met Wanda Morgan of the Boynton area and the two were married on December 5, 1955. They lived in Sand Springs for about six months where Ted worked as a spot welder. In late 1956, Ted and Wanda moved to her family farm and Ted took a position with Oklahoma Natural Gas in Okmulgee. He was a leakage survey supervisor and worked with ONG for 8 1/2 years.

Mr. Newell was a man of great faith and in 1964, he was called into the ministry. Ted, a lifelong devoted Methodist served churches in Maude and Bowlegs, Oklahoma and St. Louis, OK. In 1965, he moved his family to California where they resided outside of Los Angeles in Maywood. Ted took a position with an aerospace parts company and was a crush grind operator and later made specialty artillery parts for military aircraft.

In 1970, the Newell’s returned to Oklahoma and purchased Ted’s grandfather’s farm in the Wainwright area. He started ranching at that time and also took a job with Oklahoma Gas and

Electric. He worked two years with O. G. & E. before going to work for Moorman’s Feed Co. He continued working there through 1979 and finally moved into ranching full-time. Ted was a custom hay bailer and he operated in northeastern Oklahoma until his retirement in 2003.

Mr. Newell was devoted to his church and he was a longtime member of the Methodist Church. He and Wanda were members at Butler Memorial Methodist near Okmulgee when they were married.  When they returned to Oklahoma they renewed their membership at Oktaha United Methodist and continued there from 1970 until 1997. In 1997, they transferred their membership to St. Paul United Methodist Church, and together he and Wanda are currently attending Boynton Assembly of God Church.

Mr. Newell was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Janice Rae Vincent, brother in-law Bill Vincent and brother in-law David Parker.  He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Wanda of the home; two sons, Ted R. Newell, III of Muskogee, Edward Wayne Newell and wife Alice of Muskogee; two daughters, Penny Sue Kampf and husband Elliott of Muskogee and Phyllis Ann Coplan and husband Ron of Oktaha; eight grandchildren, Teddy Newell and wife Tammy of Wainwright, Justin Newell and wife Tiffany of Muskogee, Josh Kampf and wife Tasha of Tulsa, Lacey Conley and husband Danny of Muskogee, Alyssa Wood and husband Matt of Tulsa, Zachary Kampf of Muskogee, Emma Coplan of Oktaha and Will Coplan of Oktaha; three great-grandchildren, Madison Newell of Wainwright and Miles and Eleanor Ruby Kampf of Tulsa; one sister, Patricia Parker-Lynde of Pittsburgh, PA; one brother, Charles David Newell and wife Becky of Durant and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday October 15, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Wainwright. Interment will follow in Middleton Chapel Cemetery in Oktaha. Pallbearers will be Ted R. Newell IV, Josh Kampf, Justin Newell, Zachary Kampf, Will Coplan and Matt Wood.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Muskogee Regional Medical Center and the Third floor Same Day Surgery.

Funeral service arrangements are under the direction of Foster-Petering Funeral Home. Condolences to the family may be made at
