Frances Imogene Thatcher, “Nanny”

1929 - 2013

— Frances Imogene Thatcher, “Nanny”, 83, of Muskogee passed away Monday, June 10, 2013. She was born September 15, 1929 to Dovie Mae Lewis. At the young age of 2, Dovie passed and Frances was raised by her grandparents, Herod & Helen Lewis. Frances gave her life to Christ at a very young age. Frances was married to the love of her life Seaman 1st Class Kenneth M. Thatcher on February 20, 1946, in Independence, KS. Frances retired from Owens-Brockway Glass Company after 32 years of service.

Frances “Nanny” was devoted to her husband Kenneth “Pap” prior to his passing. Kenneth & Frances were blessed with two beautiful children Linda Kay and Kenneth James “Jimmy.” Frances loved spending time with her family, lunches were always served promptly at 11:30 and you could expect a delicious array of food every weekend. In Nanny’s younger years she blessed so many with her amazing cooking. Each holiday was anticipated by all, for Nanny’s dumplings!

Nanny was a true blessing to her children; she literally helped raise them as she did her own. She helped feed and clothe them when times were hard, she was giving in so many ways. She first thought God had blessed her with 5 grandchildren, but then the Lord knew she had more to give and along came 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was so proud of all of them, always wanting to show pictures of them.

Nanny’s later years have been filled with spending time with her dear friends at Green Country Apartments. She loved going downstairs to visit, play bingo, going to music shows, and enjoy some good gospel music. After a long day of fellowship she would end her days watching some of her favorite TV programs like Dancing with the Stars or Wheel of Fortune, retiring to bed with her bible and circle word books and probably a little snack.

Nanny was such a hard worker, and gave others so much. She just loved to bless others with her generosity and kindness.

Frances was preceded in death by her mother, Dovie Mae Lewis; grandparents, Herod & Helen Lewis; husband, Kenneth M. Thatcher; and daughter, Linda K. Etchison.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth James “Jimmy” Thatcher and wife Debbra of Muskogee; sister in law, Geraldine Butler; grandchildren, James “Tody” Etchison and wife Denise, Mark Etchison and wife Sandia, Kevin Etchison and wife Kellie, Tammy Hughey and husband Bobby, and Valerie Granade and husband David; great-grandchildren, Taylor Etchison, Dustin Etchison, Chelsey Etchison, Haley Bowman, Tiffany Hughey, Lukas Etchison, Aubrey Etchison, Brady Etchison, Joe Granade, Sarah Hughey, Dylan Granade, Ansley Granade and Jamie Moore; great-great grandchildren, Ace Romine-Etchison, and McKenna Moore. Special friends Ila Ferguson and the Very Special Ladies of Green Leaf Apartments.

Services for Francis I. Thatcher will be Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. at Bradley Belltower Chapel in Muskogee. Burial will follow immediately at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery with Taylor Etchison, Dustin Etchison, Lukas Etchison, Joe Granade, Dylan Granade and Rick Carbone serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer is Brady Etchison.
