Mary J. Carnes

1915 - 2014

Mary Jacqueline Carnes, 98, of Muskogee died Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Broadway Manor Nursing Home.  She was born on August 14, 1915, to Charles Madison Whaley and Berenice Elizabeth (Thomas) Whaley in Muskogee. Mary completed high school and two years of Jr. College. She married Dr. Bill M. Carnes, a veterinarian; he preceded her in death in 1973.

Mary loved animals, playing the piano and singing. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed sewing, reading, flowers, and cooking. She had a special interest in archaeology and was a member of the Archaeology Society.

Mary is survived by one step-son and his wife, Ned and Arlene Carnes and daughter-in-law, Jan Carnes all of Dallas, TX; nephew, Charles Mayes and wife Dolores of San Jose, CA; niece, Nancy Rader and husband Elmer of Kansas, OK; niece, Cherry Sallee and husband Rick of Colorado Springs, CO and numerous grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at Greenhill Cemetery.
