Douglas Wayne Aldridge

1948 - 2014

Douglas Wayne Aldridge of Warner, Okla., was born July 19, 1948 in Poteau, Okla. and passed away on April 17, 2014 in Gore, Okla. Aldridge is survived by two sons and one daughter: Roy Edward Aldridge of Poteau; Andrew Wayne Aldridge and wife Susan of Warner; and Amy Aldridge Sanford and husband Gene of Corpus Christi, Texas. Other survivors include grandson Justin of Warner; granddaughter Sherilynn and husband Matt Crossland of Warner; great grandson Jayme Crossland; mother Dorothy Aldridge, formerly of Muskogee and Bokoshe; brother Danny Aldridge of Columbia, Mo.; aunt Bernice Weaver of Panama, Okla.; uncle Carl Swenson of Okay; special cousin Bobby Swenson and wife Rita of Okay; and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Aldridge was preceded in death by Patty Coleman Aldridge Campbell, mother of Andrew and Amy; father Oran Aldridge; aunts Lois Ritter and Lavonne Swenson; uncles Melford Weaver and Orlen Ritter; and grandparents Roy and Grace Monks.

Aldridge lived in Warner for the past 25 years and cherished residing next door to his son Andrew on Warner Mountain. He enjoyed fishing, laughing, telling stories, watching movies, driving his classic Chevy truck, eating at the Warner Senior Center, playing checkers and dominoes, and bragging about his kids. He was a kind and generous man who took care of stray cats and people who were down on their luck. He loved his Aunt Lois’ pies and his mom’s rolls and lived for Thanksgiving gatherings and Monks’ family reunions. He was a simple man with a great big heart and his friends and family will miss him deeply.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home of Muskogee with Danny Barks officiating. A memorial service will be hosted by Amy Aldridge Sanford on May 18 at 2 p.m. at Tenkiller Baptist Assembly in Cookson, Oklahoma with Kerry D. White presiding. Burial will be under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home of Muskogee.
