PORT ARANSAS - Roy Barnett, 79 of Kerville, Texas, died Saturday, April 12, 2014, while on a trip to Port Aransas, Texas. He was born May 21, 1934, in Braggs, Oklahoma and graduated from Fort Gibson High School, also in Oklahoma. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Roy is survived by his wife of 60 years, Laura Hilbern Barnett; two sons, James Lynn Barnett and Bryan Keith Barnett Sr.; daughter, Joy Katheryn Barnett Randles; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five sisters; and three brothers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy M. Barnett and Nevada C. Barnett; grandchildren, Dustin Kyle Hogle and Desiree` Faith Barnett; two sisters; and two brothers.
Roy retired as a captain of the fire department in Muskogee, Oklahoma after 20 years of service. He held many and various jobs in addition to his work for the fire department. He worked for Western Electric, was a truck driver for Superior Mattress, owned and operated Barnett-Luke Productions Inc. and was employed by Pioneer RV Resort and Guadalupe River RV Resort.
Roy was a steer wrestler, or “bulldogger,” in rodeos. He was an avid golfer and loved to fish and hunt. He traveled with his wife around the United States and Canada before settling down in Kerrville.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Highway 16 Church of Christ in Kerrville, Texas.
