Paulette Hammontree

1954 - 2013

Paulette Hammontree, 59 year old Checotah resident, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013 in Muskogee.  She was born Monday, May 3, 1954 to Carl and Agnes Wheadon Spears in Checotah.  Paulette grew up in Checotah where she attended school and graduated from High School in 1972.  She obtained her Associate Degree at Connors State College in 1983 and later went on to get her Early Childhood Certification. She began her teaching career at Martin Luther King Head Start in Muskogee, later working in the Checotah Public School system and then at Cookson Hills.

Paulette taught for 21 years before retiring in 2004. She was a devoted mother, loving grandmother and friend to many. Paulette enjoyed camping, exercising and walking, playing the piano and crocheting.  She was a member of the Checotah Church of Christ. Paulette will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughters, Carrie Jackson and Wendy Hammontree; her parents, Carl and Agnes Spears; sisters, Nina Hopper and Carol Cantwell. Paulette is lovingly survived by her son, Barry Jackson; daughter, Brandy Hammontree; grandson, Blake Frost; granddaughter, Caley Robinson; brother, Bill Spears and his wife Ann; sister, Beverly Morse and her husband Homer Gene; and two brothers-in-law, Louis Hopper and Darell Cantwell. 

She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends. Memorial services for Paulette will be held at 10 AM Saturday, July 6, 2013, at the Checotah Church of Christ with Mr. Everett Dunn and Mr. Curtis Hartshorn officiating.
