Bobby Gene “Fishman” Lane

1928 - 2013

Bobby Gene “Fishman” Lane, 84 year old Checotah resident, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, June 13, 2013.  He was born on Saturday, August 18, 1928 to Lonnie Ray and Cara (Collins) Lane in Texanna, Oklahoma by Dr. Dyton Bennett who had a pegleg. The fee for delivering this beautiful baby boy was 2 bushels of corn, 4 dozen eggs and 1 gallon of milk. He went to school at Texanna through the 8th grade.  Bobby worked on the family farm at an early age.  He joined the Army and served from 1952-1954 during the Korean Conflict.  His basic training was at Camp Roberts in California. Afterwards he was shipped to Okinawa, Japan.  Bobby met the love of his life and was married to Gladys Wooten on Saturday, March 10, 1956 in the Eufaula laundry cross from Post Office by JB Newman.  From 1957-1959 he went to work in Tulsa where he worked on the bridge for the first year and then worked on heavy equipment for four years. He blood tested cattle in 1964.  Bobby went to work for Muskogee Iron Works in 1965 and retired in 1991. His hobbies were working and farming. Bobby’s family was the most important thing to him. He is preceded in death by his parents Lonnie Ray and Cara (Collins) Lane; wife, Gladys (Wooten) Lane; brothers, Lonnie, Harold and Don; sisters, Caroline and Joanne; brother-in-laws, Floyd, JB, Harold, Gene and Maurice; sister-in-laws, Earlene Cone and Hazel Sims; son-in-law, Howard Hess and grandson-in-law Dave Garner.  Bobby is lovingly survived by his daughters, Lacrisha Hess and Kimberly Lane; son, Greg Lane and wife Tammy; five grandchildren, Charity Hess Garner, Stephanie Hess Martin and husband Robert, Jennifer Lane Gillespie and husband Tim, Krystle Lane, and Rachael Lane. Bobby is also survived by two great-grandsons, Jacob Garner and Mason Martin; brother, James Lane, sister, Elizabeth Personett; sister-in-laws, Jeanetta Wooten, Norma Wooten, Ruby Wooten and Mott Wooten as well numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.   Funeral services for Bobby will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 17, 2013 at Lindsey Chapel Baptist Church in Eufaula, OK with Reverend Tim Turner and Reverend Tim Gillespie officiating.  Committal prayers, Military honors rendered by the United States Army Funeral Honor Guard and Interment will follow in Triplett Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett.  Robert (Butch) Hagler, Michael Wilcox, Rodney Stephens, Chuck Stewart, Gary Creekbaum and Michael Davis will serve as Casket Bearers.
