Ray Jan Cook

1933 - 2013

— Ray Jan Cook, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, departed this life on May 29, 2013. He was born on November 25, 1933 to Corbit Ray “Joe” Cook and Cherokee “Cherry” Mounts Cook, in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.

Jan graduated from Muskogee Central High and received a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Oklahoma A&M, now Oklahoma State University, in 1955. He then began his career as a geophysicist and continued in that profession until his retirement 39 years later from ExxonMobil. He felt fortunate to be able to spend his life doing work that he truly loved. Over time, this occupation took him to six of the seven continents and led to his family spending enjoyable years living in England and Singapore.

Also in 1955, he and wife, Jo Anne Hoyal, were married and they were blessed with the births of two sons. Family was Jan’s other love and his life was complete and content.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Left to remember him are his wife, Jo Anne; son, Craig and wife, Alicia; son, Matthew and wife, Shannon; grandson, Andrew, (all living in Houston); sister, Diane Reynolds (John) of Tulsa, OK; sister, Cheryl Blew of Fayetteville, AR; four nephews, one aunt, and a very large family of cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church, 228 North Lee, Fort Gibson. A private graveside service will be held for the immediate family prior to the memorial service in Greenhill Cemetery, Muskogee, in a plot adjoining his parents.

The family requests that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1563, Fort Gibson, OK, 74434, or to a charity of choice.
