Bob L. Martin


— Bob Martin 83 of Muskogee passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Eastar Health. He was born on November 24, 1929 in Okemah, OK the son of James L. and Naomi (Powell) Martin. Bob graduated from Cushing High School in 1948 and attended Draughon’s Business College before serving with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Germany and England where he witnessed Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation.

Bob married his high school sweetheart, Kathryn Duvall, and they had three daughters, Melony, Karen, and Dee Ann. He loved his time in New Mexico where he was inspired by the culture and the landscape, and transformed that into his artworks. In his later years he was a licensed real estate agent and broker, and worked at the Muskogee County Courthouse until his final retirement. He also enjoyed publishing editorial cartoons in the Muskogee Phoenix where he was featured weekly. He enjoyed songwriting, and wrote a song for his wife, “The Blue in Katy’s Eyes” His intellect and wit will be greatly missed.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Nolan and J.L.; and his wife, Katy to whom he was married to for 34 years. Bob is survived by three daughters, Melony Carey and husband  Kevin and their children, Madison Miller and husband Zachary, and John Carey and  Crissy Perigo; Karen Jones and children Brook Jones,  Nick Jones and his wife Farrell, and Tyler Jones and Alisabeth Narcomey; and Dee Ann Beal and husband Marty, and their children, Katy and Noah; two sisters, Loscille Grace and Jaynell Cooper and husband Shelby Don; nieces and nephews, Chris, Clelly, David, Kim, Beth and Rob, and  extended family and friends. Honorary pallbearers are Kevin Carey, John Carey,  Nick Jones, Tyler Jones, Dr. Marty Beal, Noah Beal and Zachary Miller.

Private Graveside services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery on Saturday, June 29, 2013. Family will celebrate the life of Bob Martin, Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the home of Melony Carey, 529 N. 14th ST. Muskogee, OK for family and friends who are wishing to drop by.
