Gretchen Lee Phillips, 66, of Fresno, CA, left us to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, February, 2, 2013.
She was born October 16, 1946 to Jim B. and Ruby Lovelady in Muskogee, OK. Gretchen attended school in Muskogee and graduated from Muskogee Central High School with the historic “Class of 64”. She married Phillip R. Roberts, her longtime sweetheart, in 1965, having two children before her husband’s death in 1976.
Gretchen moved to Ardmore, OK in 1976. She married Dennis Johnson and had her third precious daughter, Ashley. In 1990, Gretchen moved her family to Fresno, CA. In 1993, she married Ernie Phillips and they have since made their home in Fresno, CA.
Gretchen spent time working in the paralegal service area in Oklahoma and California, helping many through her compassionate and caring spirit in dealing with people and their life experiences. She enjoyed fishing, painting and gambling.
Gretchen leaves a legacy of strength and love to an extended family who knew and saw her as “Blessed”. Her primary interest was, foremost, the loving care and support of her children and family. She will be remembered by her unconquerable spirit forged by her courage as she accepted the challenges in her life.
Gretchen was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Phillip. She is survived by her husband, Ernie, one son and two daughters, Phillip R. Roberts, Jr. and wife Niki, of Fresno, CA, Kimberly Fayard and husband, Kirk, of San Jose, CA and Jennifer Ashley Johnson of Ardmore, OK, and two step children, Chad Phillips and wife, Trish of Redding, CA, and Renee Castillo and husband, Jaime of Fresno, CA. She is also survived by a brother, Roger Lovelady and sister-in-law, Carla, of Muskogee; sister-in-law, Nancy Gobets and husband, Roy of Salinas, CA; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild; many cousins, nieces and nephews and a multitude of devoted loving friends.
Memorial service will be held this Friday, February 8, at Boice Funeral Home, Clovis, CA.
