Jack Lee Copus


— Jackie Lee “Jack” Copus, son of Charles Washington Copus and Elsie Leon Looper, was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma on October 17, 1942.

He was preceded in death by his spouse of 47 years. Cletis Copus (nee Deese). He passed away at his home in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma on Tuesday morning, February 5, 2013 at the age of 70.

He attended high school at Haskell, Oklahoma but dropped out at twelfth grade to support his family by working in the oil fields. He was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force and afterwards graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1971 and served as a deputy for the Swayzee, Indiana Police Department. He worked at Kerr McGee Chemical Corporation in Trona, California from 1977-1982, and retired from Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company, Muskogee, Oklahoma Power Plant after 25 years of service as a mechanic and tool room supervisor. Jack loved coaching his grandson’s baseball team, fishing, collecting baseball hats, riding narrow gauge railway trains, and working with his son on automobiles.

He is survived by his sibling, Nedra Faye Loague; children, John Charles Copus and Tracey Lea Stewart; step-children, Gaylan Gibson, Dale Breedlove, Mark Breedlove, and Marla Cullison; grandchildren, Bryan Lee Copus, Ashley Rose Hannon, Geoffrey Gibson, Curtis Gibson, Jonathon Gibson, Jade Breedlove, Emily Breedlove, Ryan Cullison, Max Cullison, Joshua Copus, Kimri Copus, Kaylan Bailey and many more beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and other family members.

Serving as pallbearers are Ken Faddis, Randy Gilbert, Kenny Lashley and Terry Hutchens.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution in honor of Jack to a Veteran’s organization, food bank, or any other charity.

Services will be held Friday February 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., at Bradley Funeral Service Fort Gibson Chapel with Reverend Greg Boyd officiating.  Burial to follow at Citizens Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bradley Family Funeral Service Fort Gibson.
