Betty Jo Raps

Betty Jo Raps was born January 22, 1937 in Bates County, Missouri to Christopher Cox and Gladys (Dickerson) Cox.  Betty went to be with her heavenly Father on November 14, 2012.  Betty loved her grandkids and enjoyed bragging about each one of them. Betty had a huge influence on each of her grandkids.  She taught them special skills whether it was how to look mighty pretty, frying squirrel, cleaning a duck, gardening, planting flowers, or making desserts.  Without a doubt Betty made the best noodles in the world.   Betty loved to cook for her family, go fishing (she said she held the family record for catching the biggest fish, that was her story and she was sticking to it).  She enjoyed working in her flower beds, going out on the boat at the lake, going to get pedicures and manicures, and in her later years, she began studying God’s word in depth.  Each of her grandchildren had a special place in her heart!

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Ruth Grimes; and her husband, the love of her life, Paul.

She is survived by one son, Russel Gillis and wife Colleen of Butler, Mo.; one daughter, Brenda Swaidner and husband Dale of Muskogee, OK.; four grandchildren, Pamela Bolling and husband Chris of Adrian, MO.,  Brian Gillis and wife Hailey of Rich Hill, MO., Jason Swaidner of Fort Gibson, OK., and Ashley Swaidner of Tulsa, OK.; four great grandchildren, Haley Bolling, Dani Bolling, Cooper Gillis, and Sadie Gillis; four nephews, Wayne Grimes, Jim Grimes, Jerry Grimes, and Allen Grimes; sisters-in-law, Doris Null and husband Marvin, Betty Lemon and husband E.C.,  Patty Higginbottom and husband Moe; one brother-in-law Albert and wife Bobbi; several cousins and many special friends at Dogwood Creek.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 16, 2012 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eric Fletcher officiating.  Interment will follow at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery with Jason Swaidner, Brian Gillis, Dale Swaidner, Steve Clark, Greg Sorenson, and Fred Haynes serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Bolling, Frank Cook, Wayne Grimes, Jim Grimes, Jerry Grimes, and Allen Grimes.

The family requests, in memory of Betty, memorials be made to the Jack C. Montgomery Veterans Hospital Volunteer Services Fund, 1011 Honor Heights Dr., Muskogee, OK., 74401.

Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home and Crematory, 1830 North York Street, Muskogee, OK.  Condolences may be sent to the family at
