Jean Monroe Uren (Melba Jean Midkiff)

1938 - 2014

Jean Monroe Uren (Melba Jean Midkiff), 76 of Muskogee, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday morning, July 8, 2014 after a lengthy illness. Jean was born March 3, 1938 in Muskogee to Milbourn and Woenetta Midkiff. She was raised in Muskogee and graduated from Central High School in 1956. Jean also attended and graduated from Draughan's Business College in 1961, and Canada Community College in 1972 from which she received an Associate’s Degree in Business Financial Accounting. She moved to California in 1968 where she had a successful career as an office administrator for Herman Oliver and Pyrotronics Corporation in the San Francisco Bay Area. During this time, Jean met and married David Uren on April 10, 1976. She was a long time member of the American Business Women's Association.

In 1996, Jean and David retired and moved to Paradise, California. She was an active member of the Paradise Elks Club and served as the president of the Elks Wives Club in 2010. She was active in the Paradise Gold Nugget Museum, serving as docent and treasurer for many years and participating in their annual Gold Nugget Days by baking for and running the 'Ole Sweet Shoppe.' She was a member of the Paradise Pines Women’s Club.

She loved to entertain and was well known for her beautiful teas, gourmet dinners and fun parties. She opened her home to the Gold Nugget Pageant contestants and served English style teas for them each year.  She was an expert cook and enjoyed entertaining. She liked to travel and to take visitors to all the sites in San Francisco. She and her husband made many trips to England, to his hometown, and they enjoyed excursions to Hawaii. Jean moved back to Muskogee in 2012 to be near her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Donnie Cramp, Jr. of Broken Arrow, Anita Bishop of Tulsa, Catherine Dennis and husband Rickey of Muskogee; step-son, Robin Lloyd Uren of Redwood City, California; grandchildren, Christopher Cramp of Muskogee, Donnie Cramp, III of Broken Arrow, Erin and Joseph Howk of Tulsa, Brian and Sarah Dennis of Muskogee, Keith and Lisa Dennis of Tulsa and Luke Dennis of Muskogee; great grandchildren, Ethan, Aidan, Abbey, Isaac, Haley, Strider, Scout, Avah and Jillian; sisters, Patty Ann Garner and Kaye Long and husband David all of Chico, California; sister-in-law, Lanii Midkiff of Oregon; nieces and nephews, DeeAnn, Scott, Debbie, Devon, Paul, Jenny, Stacie, Javier, Elizabeth, Joaquin, and Maya; aunts and uncles, Patty Hein of Washington and Eunice Mannes of Texas, Tom Poitevant and wife Sylvia of Texas and Donald Poitevant of Muskogee; father of her children, Donnie Cramp, Sr. of Muskogee; numerous other family members and friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, David Uren; her parents; and her brothers, Ricky Midkiff and Milbourn Midkiff, Jr.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2014, at Greenhill Cemetery in Muskogee, Oklahoma with Reverend Tom Shelton officiating. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Brian Dennis, Keith Dennis, Luke Dennis, Christopher Cramp, Donnie Cramp, III and Joseph Howk.
