Wendella Inez Carroll Thomason

1928 - 2012

Beloved Wife, Mother, and Grandmother went to join her Savior on April 10, 2012.  She was born September 27, 1928 in Skiatook, OK to Wendell D. and Vinita Hodges Carroll.  

She was predeceased by her parents, her oldest son, Robert L. Thomason, Jr. (Bobby) and her sister, Juanita Carroll Yost.

Wendella lived her earlier years in Skiatook and Collinsville and then in 1933 moved to the family farm near Talala, OK.  She attended school at Collinsville, Snarr, and graduated Oologah High School in 1946.

She married Robert L. Thomason on August 27, 1947 at the Zion Hill Baptist Church, Oologah, OK. Their family was blessed with the births of their two sons Robert L., Jr. (Bobby) July 1948 and Roger Allen in September 1955.  They celebrated their 64th Wedding Anniversary in 2011.

Wendella graduated from Northeastern State College with Bachelors of Home Economics and Business and Masters Degree in Education.  She taught school at Snarr, Tulsa, and Centralia HS before moving to Muskogee in 1955.  She joined Tony Goetz Elementary School Staff, in 1955, where she taught for 5 years.  She joined her husband on the staff at Bacone College in 1960.  She was head of the Home Economics Department and taught for 31 years before retiring in 1991 as Professor Emeritus, Home Economics and Developmental Studies.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Muskogee (since 1974), Welcome Club, Pilot Club, New Friends and several bridge groups.

She spent years compiling individual historical and photo albums for her sons, grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.  She wanted them to remember the history of their family.

She had a deep and unquestionable faith, a playful sense of humor and was devoted to her family.  She had a gift of making everyone feel like they were the most important person to her when she was with them. She was uncomplaining and cheerful, living in the present with joy and a loving spirit and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by husband, Robert L. Sr.;  son, Roger Allen and wife Susan of Warner, Oklahoma, grandchildren, Misty, Matthew, Christy, Tim, Brian, Melissa, Robert L. III (Bo), Brock, Michele, Danielle, and Barbara Jean (BJ) and 18 Great Grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Cornerstone Funeral Home, 1830 N. York St., Muskogee, OK. The celebration of life service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 13, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Muskogee, 111 S. 7th St, Muskogee, OK 74401 with Dr. Lance Sawyer officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Collinsville, OK.  

Pallbearers will be Brian Thomason, Bo Thomason, Brock Thomason, Matthew Thomason, Hunter Thomason, and Shay Owens. Honorary pallbearers will be The Redneck Roundtable Members.

The family requests donations be made to the Robert L. Thomason Jr. Scholarship Fund at Northeastern State University, Tahlequah, OK.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home and Crematory, 1830 North York Street, Muskogee, Oklahoma.
