— Wanda Lee McConnell, 81, of Vian, Oklahoma, passed away March 24, 2013 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She was born March 17, 1932 in Braggs, Oklahoma, the daughter of Duke Wilson and Mary Elizabeth (MCBee) Thomas. She married Mike McConnell on June 16, 1949 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Mrs. McConnell was a retired nurse’s assistant, a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors are 2 daughters and 1 son-in-law, Susan Carol McConnell of Tahlequah, OK and Denise Lea and Jeff Bemo of Muskogee, OK; 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Steven Mike and Karen McConnell of Ponca City, OK, Nelson Glen McConnell of Ponca City, OK and Leslie Alan and Debbie McConnell of Evening Shade community, OK; 11 grandchildren, Darcy McConnell, Matthew and Mary Geer, Jeremy McConnell, Brent and Leslie McConnell, Sarah Rodgers, Alan Bemo, Jennifer Ingold, Liz McConnell and Danielle McConnell; 10 great grandchildren, Bailey Kate, Halle Grace, Fisher, Alison, Lyric, Jaedyn, Michael Layne, Dylan, Payton, and Oaks Maker; 1 sister, Ellen Jo Terry

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Mike McConnell, her parents, Duke and Mary Thomas, her aunt who raised her, Maudie Lee McBee Smithson Webster; 1 sister, Mary Thomas Randle; half-sister, Shirley Dotson and 2 brothers, Cecil and W.A. Smithson.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 11 am at Vian Creek Baptist Church. Burial will be held at Barnoskie Cemetery under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.

Viewing will be Tuesday from 10 am – 8 pm. The family will greet friends from 6 – 8 pm at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.

Active Pallbearers are Alan Bemo, Matthew Geer, Jeremy McConnell, Brent McConnell, Nelson McConnell and Leslie McConnell. Honorary Pallbearers are Steve McConnell, Jeff Bemo, Mike Smithson.
