Sherman Lee Burwell

1933 - 2013

— Sherman Lee Burwell, 79, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 with his family at his side.  He was born July 2, 1933 in Okay, Oklahoma to Lee Burwell and Roxy McIntire.  Sherman grew up in Okay where he attended school.  He proudly served his country by joining the United States Navy where he served for six years and received an honorable discharge. While in the Navy, Sherman attended college at UCLA studying to become an electrical engineer.  He worked as an electrical engineer for Fort Howard from which he retired in 1998 after many years of service.  Sherman enjoyed traveling, fishing, his pets, and going to the casino. He loved watching any kind of sports especially, OU football and basketball, as he was a huge OU fan.  He loved his family but wanted them quiet during game time.  

Sherman met Kassie and they were wed on July 8, 1983 in Sherman, TX.  

Sherman was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bob; and his sister, Anne.

He is survived by his wife, Kassie, of the home; his daughters, Debbie Robertson and husband, Doug of Checotah, Cynthia Naumann and husband, Mike of Montgomery, TX.; his son, Sherman Burwell Jr., and wife, Teresa;  his stepdaughters, Shawn Evans of Tulsa, Cynthia Callahan and husband, Brian of Charlotte, NC.; eight grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren; his sister, Vi of Muskogee; his brother, Charles Burwell and wife, Jo of Dallas, TX.; and a host of other family members.

Funeral services for Sherman will be 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Shelton officiating.  Honorary pallbearers will be Dakota Kates, Carroll Allbery, Doug Huber, Scott Rutherford, Jeremy Rutherford, Brian Callahan, and Charles Burwell.

Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home and Crematory, 1830 N. York Street, Muskogee, Oklahoma.  Condolences may be sent to the family at
