Michael Allen Cowden

1967 - 2012

— Mike Cowden, age 44 of Okay, Oklahoma died on Tuesday, January 17th, 2012 at his home in Okay.

 He was the son of Clifford and JoAnn (Doughty) Cowden and was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on October 29th, 1967.

Mike received his early education at Okay High School and lived most of his life in the Okay community. He was known as a jokester and he loved clowning around and was the kind of person who always gave a smile to those who crossed his path. Mike would always pass along a big smile and a hug to friends and family when he got an opportunity. He graduated from Okay High School in 1985. He worked as a carpenter for a number of years but he had a love for horses. Later he moved to Quapaw, Oklahoma where he worked for Jack Abernathy on his ranch as a jockey and trainer of race horses for about five years before returning to Okay. Mike lived the past 3 years in Okay prior to his death.  He was an outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing and being with his friends, having a good time. Mike’s favorite past time was drift fishing with his dad. He enjoyed the peace and quiet as well as the excitement while drift fishing on Fort Gibson Lake.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frances and Gene Doughty, Roy and Viola Cowden, his aunt, Patsy Moore and cousins, Stephanie and Jason Hamby.

Mike is survived by his parents; Clifford and JoAnn Cowden of Okay, Oklahoma, two sons, Dustin Allen Cowden and his wife Rachel of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma and Jessie Lee Cowden, wife Amanda and three grandchildren, Cash, Weston and Colton Cowden of Fort Gibson, one brother, Ronnie Cowden and wife Shannon of Okay, Oklahoma, one niece, Krisha and husband William and daughter Abbi Jo Wolfe, two nephews, Zachary and Jacob Cowden.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Memory of Mike to The American Bank P.O. Box 586 Wagoner, Oklahoma 74477. Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21st, 2012 at the Three Rivers Cemetery in Okay, Oklahoma. 

Funeral service arrangements are under the direction of Shipman Funeral Home & Crematory in Wagoner, Oklahoma.
