Edd Helton


Wofford Edd Helton, 78, of Checotah Oklahoma went to be with our Lord on Friday November 2, 2012 after an accident.

Edd was born on February 15, 1934 in Wheeler, Texas to Columbus Tump Helton and Alice Wofford Helton. Edd’s family moved to California where he went to school and later enlisted in the United States Navy. After discharge, he moved to Checotah, Oklahoma where he owned H & H Used Cars and raised cattle. He liked to buy and sell knives, spurs, cars and equipement. Edd was a member of the First Assembly of God Church for the past 58 years.

Edd is preceded in death by his sons Steve and Terry Helton, his parents Columbus Tump and Alice Helton and sister Sharon McDowell.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma, of the home, daughter in law Arlene Helton of Arlinton, Texas, two step sons Rogers and wife Colleen, Jody and wife Penny all of Checotah. Two brothers, Jack and wife Wilma of Mariposa California, Donald and wife Joyce of Merced, California. Ten grand children, Travis, Jeff, Tara, Amanda and husband Randy, Adam and wife Amanda, Allen, Aaron, Eric, Andrea and Richealle  Nine great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Kailtyn, Landon, Thor, Creed, Christian, Jordyn, Austin and Evan, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be Thursday November 8, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Checotah, Oklahoma. Pastor Paul Butler will officiate. Serving as pallbearers are Travis Helton, Eugene Parker, Randy Nester, Bill Crenshaw and Herman McBride. Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Crenshaw, Brad McMinn, Arthur Watson, Bill Duvall, Albert Crenshaw, Wayne Savor, and Roy Duvall.

In lieu of flowers, friends of Edd may make memorials to First Assembly of God Church Paving Fund. Visitation will be Wednesday November 7, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Checotah Funeral Service.  Friends may send condolences to the family at
