James David “JD” Maher

1934 - 2012

— James David “JD” Maher, 77 year old Warner resident, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2012 in Muskogee. He was born Monday, December 10, 1934 to Andrew and Myrtle (De Foor) Maher in Warner, Oklahoma.

JD grew up in Warner where he graduated from Warner High School in 1952. On Saturday, December 6, 1952, he married his best friend and love of his life Wanda Sue Oakes in Ft. Smith Arkansas. They were just a month shy of celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. In 1953, JD entered the United States Air Force where he served his country during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam wars. After 20 years of dedicated service, he was honorably discharged from The United States Air Force on Wednesday, October 31, 1973 at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the rank of TGST Sergeant. He went on to work at City Chevrolet as a salesman, Westin Crown Center as the Laundry Plant Manager and later began working at the V.A. and retired as a GS-11.

JD loved his family and more than anything enjoyed taking family vacations and working on genealogy and was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Warner, Oklahoma.

JD was preceded in death by his parents; sons James Michael “Mike” Maher and Darrell Dwayne Maher; brother George Maher; step-sister Carolyn Maher and brother-in-law Harley Bias.

He is lovingly survived by his beautiful wife Wanda of the home; children David Maher of the home and Janice Elaine Osmon and her husband Devlin of McClain, OK; grandchildren Dacia Ezell, Jason Maher and his wife Kiffany , Carissa McMurtrey and her husband Justin, Melissa Ross and her husband Ron, Dewayne Maher and his wife Denny, David Bradford “Brad” Maher and his wife Tosha, Elisa Maher and her husband Allen, Andrew Maher; great grandchildren Colby, Ryan, Tyler, Austin, Gage, Gavin, Ginnica, Dalton, MacKinze, Camden, April, Madison and Damon; brothers Charles Maher and his wife Irene, John Maher and his wife Ruby, Garland Maher and his wife Trixie and David Eustler and his wife Molly; sisters Naomi Brown and her husband Mark, Lilly Eustler. He is also lovingly survived by his brothers-in-law Lonnie Robison and his wife Margaret, Larry Robison and his wife Lisa; sisters-in-law Pat Park and her husband Bob, Ruby Luke and her husband Donald, Stella Bias, Anna Lee Hill and her husband William, Carol York and her husband Buddy. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family members and a host of lifelong friends.

In honoring the life of JD, memorials may be made in his memory to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 250, Warner, Oklahoma 74469. Viewing will be 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday, November 11, 2012 with JD’s family greeting friends from 2 PM to 4 PM at Garrett Family Funeral Home of Checotah.

Funeral services for JD will be held 2 PM Monday, November 12, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Warner with Reverend Sam Dunn officiating. Committal prayers and Interment will be 10 AM Tuesday, November 13, 2012 in the National Cemetery in Ft. Gibson, OK with military honors provided by the United States Air Force Funeral Detail under the personal direction of John Garrett. Jason Maher, Dewayne Maher, Brad Maher, Andrew Maher, Ron Ross, Justin McMurtrey and Devlin Osmon will serve as Casket Bearers. Bo Mullin, Bill Mullin, Charlie McGrew and Burl Goats will serve as Honorary Casket Bearers.
