William Bruce Guthrie

1947 - 2012

William Bruce Guthrie, 65, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2012.

He was born September 10, 1947 in Terlton, Oklahoma to Avery Guthrie and Ruth Spriggs Guthrie. Bruce attended Cleveland High School from which he graduated in 1965. He furthered his education at Oklahoma State University graduating in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Bruce worked several years as a staff accountant at a Tulsa firm before moving to Muskogee where he was an auditor for Citizens National Bank & Trust. In 1976, Bruce became a part of the clerk’s office for the U.S. District Court of Eastern Oklahoma as its chief deputy and in September of 1989 he was appointed court clerk by U.S. District Court Judge, Frank H. Seay.

Bruce was known by many and he will truly be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Joan; son, John Guthrie; daughters, Becky Key and spouse Kevin, Robin Guthrie and spouse Nick Rowell, and Rachel Guthrie; grandchildren, Kennedye Guthrie and Alex Key; brothers, Anthony Guthrie and wife Marcella, Tom Guthrie and wife Gale, Jeff Guthrie and wife Kathy, Jesse Guthrie; sister, Sandra Jones; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members; along with many special friends.

The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 4110 S. 100th E. Ave, Grant Building, Ste. 101, Tulsa, OK.  74146.

A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel.

A funeral mass is planned for 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 2, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Mike Knipe celebrant. Interment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery.

Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home and Crematory, 1830 North York Street, Muskogee, OK.
