James Clarence Jaynes

1937-2013

James Clarence Jaynes, 75, of Muskogee, Oklahoma went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 24, 2013.  He was born November 15, 1937 in Braggs, Oklahoma to Herbert Clarence Jaynes and Katherine Neoma Prichard Jaynes.  James grew up in Braggs where he attended school.  He met Mary Belle Tolliver in April of 1957.  She walked by the window at Coburn’s and he told a coworker, “I’m going to marry that girl.”  Their wedding took place on December 12, 1958.

James began working for Coburn Optical in December of 1955.  He was “Employee of the Year” in 1989.  He retired in 1992 after 37 years of service.  James also worked in the carpentry business and enjoyed woodworking.  He loved horses, rabbit and quail hunting, and being outdoors, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren.

James was of Pentecostal faith and helped build the church on Peak Boulevard currently known as Oasis Community Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 50 years, Mary Belle Jaynes in 2009; his sons, Terry Don Jaynes on September 30, 2001 and Gary Wayne Jaynes; his granddaughter, Heather Lynn Jaynes; and his sister, Helen McElhaney.

James is survived by his son, Jerry Jaynes and wife, Melinda of Muskogee; his daughter-in-law, Belinda Jaynes of Fort Gibson; his grandchildren, Hayley Beth Jaynes, Hunter Brooke Jaynes of Muskogee, and Cody Waynes Jaynes of Norman; his brother, Frank Jaynes and wife, Darlene of Braggs; his sisters, Barbara Harris of Porum, Mary Katherine Givens and husband, George, Pamela Chandler and husband, Jerry, all of Braggs; special cousin, Bobby Prichard and wife, Barbara; and his special friend, Jerrel Ellis and wife, Faye; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.

Funeral services celebrating James’ life will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 30, 2013 at Oasis Community Church, 800 West Peak Blvd. with Rodney Mattox, Louis Godby, and Allen Tedford officiating.  Interment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery with Ronnie Cockrell, Tom Hiner, Dennis Landers, Rolland Lewis, Cody Jaynes, Joe Bob Lovett, Ronnie LaCrone, and Gary Clay serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Linden Ballard, JC Smith, Bobby Prichard, Nathanel Clymer, Jerrel Ellis, Mike Morse, Jon Petitti, Nate McMahan, Dale Shoemake, Larry Lewis, Don Broddis, and Robert Fulton.
