Novella Webb Gaston

1922 – 2013

Novella Casey, was born to Neal and Georgia Williams Casey in Wybark, OK, on February 25, 1922.  

She was one of nine children born to this family. On April of 1941, Novella married Mr. Arthur Lee Webb, Jr. and this union produced eight children, Doris, Leon, Carolyn, Gwen, Roy, Terry, Patricia and Cynthia. During this time the family became active members of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where Novella served in the mission, kitchen and wherever needed. She later became the “Church Mother”. Novella spent many years as a domestic aide. Even though she took care of the needs of others, her family was her first priority. She was an extraordinary cook and was well known for her culinary skills and talents. She not only cooked for her own church, but for several others as well.

The union of Novella and Arthur came to an end with his death in May of 1989. In later years she met and married Mr. Booker Gaston. He passed away in September 1996.

On November 6, 2013, Novella quietly departed this life.

Other family member who preceded her home were her parents, Neal and Georgia Casey, three sisters, Nellie McConnell, Mildred Douglas and Rosalee Johnson, Five brothers, Brandon Casey, Sye Daniel Casey, David Casey, Hillary Casey and Henry Eric Casey. Two daughters, Doris Webb McBride and Patricia    (Pat) Bowens and two granddaughters, Cassaundra Webb and Rolanda McBride.  

Those she leaves behind to cherish their memories of her include her children, Leon (Anna) Webb, Lawton, OK, Carolyn Mure, Muskogee, OK, Gwen (Cleveland) Shy, Trenton, NJ, Roy Michael (Jean) Webb, Jackson, NJ, Terry (Regina) Webb, Owasso, OK and Cynthia (Cindy) Webb, Muskogee, OK.  Eighteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Also two life long friends, Elder Chester Gray and Ms. Bessie Ware and other friends.

Homegoing services for Novella will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2013, 11:00 AM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. David L. Ragsdale, Jr. officiating.  

She will be laid to rest in Booker T. Washington cemetery.  

Visitation hours are today from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM.

Services are under the direction of Ragsdale Funeral Center.
