James Alfred Stanley

1932 - 2013

James Alfred Stanley was born October 5, 1932 in Harrold, SD to John Alfred Stanley & Mildred (Kimball) Stanley-Smith. He passed away peacefully on May 1, 2013 in Muskogee, OK at the age of 80.

After joining the Army, he met and married the love of his life, Evelyn I. Walker. They were married February 12, 1956 in Muskogee. Together, the couple had an active military life as James served his country for 3 years in the Army and 23 years in the Air Force. James was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by six of his eight children: June Gardner & her husband, Paul of Ridge Manor, FL; Jane Arnold of Las Vegas, NV; Valerie McAffey & her husband, Bill of Washington State; Colleen Mitchum & her husband, Joe of Muskogee; Wesley Stanley & his wife, Robin of Muskogee; Laurie McCormick & her fiancé, Eddie Kirk of Edmond; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother, Robert “Bob” Smith & his wife, Carolyn of Beatrice, NE and a sister, Patricia (Smith) Powell of Des Moines, IA; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

James was preceded in death by his parents, John A Stanley, Mildred Stanley-Smith & Russell Smith; his wife, Evelyn; two sons, James Osbon Stanley and Rodney “Randy” Stanley and one brother, Jack Stanley.

He will be sorely missed.

A funeral service celebrating the life of James Stanley will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 6, 2013 at Anchor Baptist Church with Pastor Howard Potts officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery with Greg Mitchum, Marcus Stanley, David Stanley, Roger Stanley, Eddie Kirk and Jason Stanley serving as pallbearers.

The family has entrusted Bradley Family Funeral and Cremation Service with the arrangements. Friends may send condolences to the family at
