Edna Ellis

Edna was born July 9, 1930 in western Oklahoma, the daughter of the late David John and Evia Mae (Rose) Manes.  She married T.R. Ellis in November of 1951, raised a family with him and after 41 years of marriage, they maintained a very close friendship for the remainder of her life.

She worked to receive her GED and graduated in 1967 from Bacone College as a Registered Nurse, while always focusing first on her family.  She worked at Muskogee General Hospital for a number of years before continuing her nursing career in the home health industry until she retired in the mid 1990’s.  Due to her gentle way and caring heart, the nursing profession just came naturally to her.

She was known by those she worked with, those she cared for and especially by her family and friends as one of the kindest people you could ever hope to meet.  Edna’s greatest passion in life was her family.  Better known as Grandma Vern, she doted on her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending their sporting and special events whenever possible.  Primarily she just loved spending time with her family in any way she could.  It was simply her greatest joy in life!  She also liked to read, work crossword puzzles and was known as a good cook.

Edna was preceded in death by a son, Sidney Dan Ellis, two brothers, Earl Manes and Junior Manes, three sisters, Ethel Manes, Betty Manes and baby girl Manes.

She is survived by: son Allen Ellis and wife Marsha; daughter-in-law Diane Ellis; daughter Brenda Bolding and husband Mark; son Brian Ellis and wife Elise, all of Muskogee;  Eleven grandchildren, Jennifer Barnoskie, Traci Bass and husband Jason, Staci Hoffman and husband Kelly, Amy Stairs and husband Richard, Matthew Ellis and wife Amber, Danny Bolding and wife Kelly, Kaci Ellis, Samantha Bolding, Cody Cookson, Ever Ellis, Evan Ellis and fourteen great-grandchildren;  Three sisters; Ona Evans of Tahlequah, Lucille Page and Hazel Page of Muskogee;  Two brother-in-laws; George Ellis of Texas and David Ellis and wife Pat of California;  Along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A special thanks goes out to all the many care givers she has had throughout the last few years of her life.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 29, 2013, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Guy Grooms officiating.  Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 on Wednesday  at the funeral home.   Casket-bearers are; Matthew Ellis, Danny Bolding, Cody Cookson, River Stairs, Jason Bass, Shawn Bass, Kaden Bass and Daniel Hannon.  Honorary Casket-bearers are; Kelly Hoffman, Richard Stairs, Shawn Kuykendall and Gary Andrews.
