Betty Joyce Hooper 76, of Muskogee, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at EASTAR Health System in Muskogee.
Betty was born July 22, 1937, in Midland, Texas, the daughter of Joseph and Gerdy (Mitchell) Black. She graduated from Oceanside High School in California and married Harold E. Hooper on November 22, 1955, in Yuma, AZ. Betty was the Proverbial woman, with love and hard work she cared for her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; she was a lover of farm animals and had goats, chickens, pigs, peacocks and other animals she cared for; Betty was a gardener, enjoyed arts and crafts and decorating, garage sales, and fine cooking for her family and friends. She knew how to keep the kids, grandkids and great-grandkids in line mixing strictness with tender love. She also traveled with her husband for many years working in the moving van business. Betty will be remembered and appreciated by her family for her determined unending devotion to each and every member of her family.
Betty was a member of the Eastern Star and the Whittier PTA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Bill Black, and is survived by her husband Harold of the home; daughter, Tracey Young of Muskogee; son, John William Hooper of Orange County, Calif.; adopted daughter, Dorothy Mills of Muskogee; five grandchildren, Jessica Hooper and husband Anson Williams of Muskogee, Samantha Young and husband Michael McCutcheon of Muskogee, Mandie Hooper and husband Brad Core of Muskogee, Buck Hooper and wife Becky of Muskogee and Justin Young and wife Erin of Muskogee; ten great-grandchildren: Bradley McCormick, Haeden Hooper, Colton Hughart, Jax McCutcheon, Tate Hooper, Gaia Core, Preston Core, Kelsey Williams, Keira Core, and Kaden Core; three sisters, Jessie Craigmiles of California, Sue Yarbrough of Alabama and Diane Clark of Bartlesville, OK.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the Bradley Belltower Chapel with Pastor Frank Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Muskogee.
