Rita Winette Beaird


Rita Winette Beaird, 50 year old lifetime Checotah resident passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 in Checotah. She was born on Friday, December 7, 1962 to Floyd and Violet (Grant) Beaird in Wagoner, OK. Rita grew up in Checotah where she attended Special Education classes at Checotah Public School from 1971 to 1988.

She loved attending and participating in the Special Olympics. Rita was a huge fan of Elvis Presley and enjoyed all kinds of music. She had a special gift of touching everyone’s life she came into contact with. Rita loved shopping especially at Wal-Mart, thinking it was just built for her. She was a member of the Checotah Church of Christ.

Rita was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; her parents Floyd and Violet Beaird. She is lovingly survived by her brothers, Rodger Beaird and his wife Cora of Checotah and Jerry Beaird and his wife Judy of Eufaula; and her sisters, Regina Shropshire and her husband Bobby of Checotah; Dovie Smith of Nashville, TN; and Lydia Underhill and her husband Glen of Checotah. Rita is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews as well as other extended family and host of friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Rita’s family will greet friends from 2-4 on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Garrett Family Funeral Home. Funeral services for Rita will be held at 2 P.M. on Monday, December 9, 2013 at the  Checotah Church of Christ with Mr. Everett Dunn officiating. Committal prayers and Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett. Roy Matthews, Buddy Forbes, Bobby Frame, Vic Emerson, Jr., Terry Funburg and Tim Frame will serve as Casket Bearers. Robby Underhill, Robert Smith and Brad Shropshire will serve as Honorary Casket Bearers.
