Collene Lucille Hutcherson, 95 year old Checotah resident, passed away, Monday, September 30, 2013 in Checotah surrounded by her loving family. She was born Friday, May 24, 1918 to Walter and Bernice (Collins) Schlotz in Okemah. Collene attended High School and graduated from Highway High School in Eastern Oklahoma and also attended Bakersfield Jr. College during the brief time while living in Bakersfield and also Connors State College in Warner, OK. Collene “Mrs. Hutch” will be remembered for her sweet and kind demeanor and her loving support of her family. She lived a long and fulfilling life. Collene was very active in her children’s activities when they were growing up and her church. She was a member of The Latter-day Saints for 55 years. Collene was an expert seamstress, fantastic cook, quilter, loved to can, do gardening but most of all tend her cattle and take care of her ranch. She always had a positive attitude and good sense of humor. Collene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanford Calvin “Hutch” Hutcherson (1985); brother, Stephen (Bob) Schlotz; son, Dwight Lynn Hutcherson;. She is lovingly survived by her beloved daughter, Donna Sue Bartlett of Bakersfield, CA; her beloved son, Gailyn Wayne Hutcherson and wife Carolyn of Checotah; and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Walsh Hutcherson of Santa Maria, CA; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; and two great, great grandchildren. Heaven will be a better place with “Mrs. Hutch” there. She will be missed so much by her family. The family would like to give a special thanks to mom’s caregivers for the last three years, especially Lou Verling and Geraldine Cannon who were special to her. Funeral Services for Collene will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, October 2, 2013 in the Serenity Chapel of Garrett Family Funeral Home. Committal Prayers and Internment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett.
